“Developing a Competency-Based Curriculum” Workshop

In the morning of October 8th
2018, an opening ceremony of “Developing a competency-based curriculum”
workshop under the subproject of "Improving the capacity of professional
practical training based on competency standards to meet the requirements of
integration and harmonization in education in new period” in the framework of
FCB project and funded by Belgium Government, was taken in the Council Hall of the
Hanoi University of Pharmacy (HUP). Attending the workshop, for HUP side, there
were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Thi Thanh Hai- Vice Rector, together with Head/Deputy
Head/officials of HUP departments/units. For FCB PMU side, there were Ms. Tran
Thi Thanh Huong - the coordinator of Enabel and Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan Huong - the
FCB educational counselor. For lecturers of the workshop, there were Assoc.
Prof. Dr. Pairote Stirayakorn and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bandit Suksawat, Dean and Deputy
Dean of the Department of Technical Education, King Mongkut’ University of
Technology North Bangkok.
The aim of the workshop was to
provide an overview of how to design a competency-based training curriculum.
Teaching methods and evaluation methods are designed together to assess learners’
study based on their performance on knowledge, attitude, skills, and habits compared
to the requirements of each level. “Competency-based education” underscores the
application of learners’ knowledge and skills into practice and has “students centered
approach” as its fundamental concept. In addition, it is necessary to distinguish
the difference between developing program and holding “Competency-based
education” and “Contents-based education”. From that point, it would provide us
the overview of “Competency-based education” and “Contents-based education” and
overview of evaluation methods, lecturers’ role in “Competency-based education”;
encourage them to apply advanced technologies and teaching tools to optimize
the learners’ abilities.
At the end
of the training course, the Certificates of Completion were awarded to 100% of learners.
On behalf of HUP Directorate Board, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Thi Thanh Hai, at the
closing ceremony, expressed her sincere thanks to the support of FCB in
strengthening HUP lectures’ capacities in order to meet the requirements of
educational integration. She highly appreciated Professors from King Mongkut’
University of Technology Northern Bangkok for their enthusiastic instruction on
advanced teaching methods in order to meet the requirements of integration and
harmonization in education in new period.
